Seychelles Island-Hopping Honeymoon: Mahé, Praslin & La Digue

The Seychelles is one of the best African destinations for a pure beach honeymoon, but staying on only one island misses much of what makes the country special. Mahé, Praslin and La Digue feel different enough that combining them creates a richer trip without adding international borders or complicated visa logistics.

Mahé

Mahé is the largest island and the main international gateway. It has the widest hotel choice, dramatic mountain scenery, hidden coves and enough restaurants and activities to keep a longer stay interesting. Many couples use it for the first or last two or three nights because flights arrive here.

Praslin

Praslin is slower and smaller, with excellent beaches and easy access to Vallée de Mai. It works particularly well for honeymooners who want a romantic resort base without feeling completely cut off. The island is large enough for exploration but small enough to feel manageable.

La Digue

La Digue is the most distinctive of the three. Bicycles, granite boulders and a very relaxed pace make it ideal for two or three nights. Anse Source d’Argent is famous, but the real pleasure is the island rhythm rather than one single beach.

A good island-hopping itinerary

For ten nights, consider three nights on Mahé, four on Praslin and three on La Digue. For twelve to fourteen nights, add more time on Praslin or Mahé rather than introducing too many extra islands. Honeymoons benefit from slower transfers and longer stays.

What it costs

The Seychelles is not a low-cost beach destination. Strong romantic resorts commonly range from US$300–800 per night per couple, while top luxury properties can exceed US$1,000 by a large margin. Ferries are cheaper than domestic flights and work well between the main islands, though sea conditions can be rough at times.

Best time to island-hop

The Seychelles is warm year-round. April–May and October–November are often particularly pleasant transition months with lighter winds. June–September can be breezier, especially on exposed coasts. December–February is warmer and more humid, with showers possible.
