Privacy Policy

Last updated 6 August 2026

This policy explains what personal data honeymoons.africa collects, why we collect it, and — most importantly — who we share it with. The short version: when you send us an enquiry, we pass it to a small number of tour operators so they can quote on your trip. That is the entire purpose of the service. We do not sell your data to anyone else.

Who we are

honeymoons.africa publishes honeymoon planning guides for African destinations and operates a free introduction service connecting couples with specialist tour operators. For the purposes of data protection law we are the data controller for the information described below.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you submit the planning form we collect: your names, email address, chosen destination, intended travel dates, trip length, budget range, and any free-text notes you add. All of these except your name and email are optional.

We also automatically record which page you submitted from, the website that referred you, any campaign parameters in the URL, and the time of submission. We use this to understand which guides are useful, and to give the operator context on what you have already read.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites we use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and site function. You control these through the consent banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choices at any time using the re-consent icon. Analytics cookies are not set unless you accept them.

Who we share it with — read this part

When you submit the planning form, we share your enquiry with a small number of tour operators — usually two or three — who specialise in your chosen destination and budget level. They receive the details you provided so they can prepare a proposal, and they will contact you directly.

Those operators are independent businesses and become data controllers in their own right for the information they receive. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies, and they are responsible for it once it reaches them. If you want to know which operators received your enquiry, email us and we will tell you.

Some of these operators are based outside the UK and European Economic Area — commonly in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and other African countries. This means your data may be transferred internationally. We only do this because it is necessary to provide the service you have asked for, and we require operators to handle your data securely and use it only to respond to your enquiry.

We also use service providers who process data on our behalf: our website host, our email provider, our workflow automation platform and our analytics providers. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers or unrelated marketing lists.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry data for up to three years from your last contact with us. Honeymoon planning often runs twelve to eighteen months ahead, and couples frequently come back after a long gap. Records relating to a booking on which a commission was paid are kept for seven years where required for tax and accounting purposes. You can ask us to delete your data sooner — see below.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EEA you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data deleted
  • Restrict or object to how we use it
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To exercise any of these, email hello@honeymoons.africa. We will respond within one month. Note that we cannot delete data already transferred to a tour operator on your instruction — you would need to contact them directly, and we will give you their details so you can.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Security

Your enquiry is transmitted over an encrypted connection and processed through our workflow platform. We limit access to enquiry data to those who need it. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.

Children

This site is intended for adults planning a honeymoon. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

Third-party links

Our guides link to external sites including government visa portals and tour operators. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we recommend reading their policies before providing them with information.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, and revise the date at the top. If we make a significant change to how we share your data we will make that clear rather than quietly amending the text.

Questions about your data?

Email us and a person will answer. We will also tell you exactly which operators received your enquiry if you want to know.
