Uganda’s equatorial climate means warm days year-round, with cooler nights in the highlands around Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi. Best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga runs every day of the year. The dry months — June to August and December to February — make the steep, dense forest easier underfoot, and they are the most popular times to trek. In the rainy months, treks can be tougher and wetter, but the forest is lush and you share lodges with fewer visitors. Whatever the month, bring waterproofs: it can rain in a rainforest at any time. Best time for chimps and savannah safari
Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale follows the same pattern: drier months bring easier trails. For savannah parks such as Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, the dry seasons concentrate wildlife near water and make game drives more comfortable. After the rains, the landscapes are at their greenest and most photogenic.
Is the rainy season worth it?
For some couples, yes. The long rains of March to May bring the quietest parks, and Uganda has at times offered discounted permits in low-season months. The trade-offs are slippery trails, occasional road delays and more cloud. If you choose the rainy season, allow extra time between destinations and consider domestic flights to avoid long drives on muddy roads.
