Realistic 7-, 10- and 14-night budgets — including safari accommodation, park fees, internal flights, Zanzibar and the upgrades that push the price higher.

Cost guide for couples

The short answer

For two people, a realistic Tanzania honeymoon usually starts around US$6,500–10,000 for a compact seven-night safari-led trip, US$8,500–14,500 for a ten-night safari + beach honeymoon, and roughly US$12,000–22,000 for a comfortable-to-premium 14-night trip. These are planning ranges for the trip inside Tanzania and normally exclude intercontinental long-haul flights.

Tanzania can look deceptively expensive because the visible hotel rate is only one part of the safari cost. Park and concession fees, a private or shared vehicle, light-aircraft sectors, transfers and the beach hotel can all sit outside the room price. The best way to compare Tanzania quotes is therefore per couple, all-in, for the same itinerary.

Pricing basis: All ranges below are indicative planning estimates per couple. Unless stated otherwise they assume accommodation, normal meals on safari, park/conservation charges, usual safari activities and domestic routing inside Tanzania, but exclude intercontinental flights, travel insurance and major personal spending.

7, 10 and 14-night Tanzania honeymoon budgets

Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania

7 nights

US$6,500–10,000

Best as a safari-led honeymoon: Ngorongoro + one Serengeti base, or a shorter northern circuit. Adding Zanzibar is possible but starts to compress both halves.

Couple walking on a Zanzibar beach at sunset

10 nights

US$8,500–14,500

A good minimum for safari + beach: roughly five or six safari nights and four or five nights on Zanzibar.

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

14 nights

US$12,000–22,000

Enough time for Tarangire/highlands, Ngorongoro, a proper Serengeti stay and five or six beach nights without rushing.

Budget by travel style

Travel styleTypical 10–12 night totalWhat that usually means
Value-consciousUS$6,500–9,000Good camps rather than trophy lodges, shared game drives or road-heavy routing, and a strong mid-range Zanzibar stay.
ComfortableUS$8,500–14,500Well-run safari camps, sensible internal flights, Ngorongoro + Serengeti, and a good four- or five-star beach finish.
PremiumUS$14,000–24,000Better-positioned camps, more private guiding, stronger room categories and a high-end Zanzibar resort.
ExceptionalUS$25,000–50,000+Top safari lodges, private vehicles, premium fly-in routing, villas or private-pool suites and a luxury beach property.

Where the money goes

1. Safari accommodation, guiding and meals

This is usually the largest line item. A safari lodge rate may include meals but not necessarily park fees, concession fees, airport transfers or game drives. Four Seasons Serengeti, for example, states that its standard room rate includes meals and drinks but excludes national-park fees, airport transfers and game drives unless an offer specifically says otherwise.

2. Park and concession fees

These matter more than many first-time travellers expect. Four Seasons currently publishes Serengeti adult park fees of US$82.60 per person per day in its higher-rate season and a concession fee of US$70.80 per adult in the high concession-fee season. For a couple, that is more than US$300 per day before the room, guiding or flights. TANAPA also publishes its official park tariff schedule, and Ngorongoro is charged separately through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.

3. Internal flights and transfers

Light-aircraft flights save a great deal of road time but add up quickly. Coastal Aviation currently operates direct Serengeti–Zanzibar services and its 2026 schedule shows Zanzibar–Arusha fares around the high-US$200 range on some published sectors. Treat any single fare as a live example rather than a fixed price because routing, airstrip and season change the total.

4. Zanzibar or Mafia Island accommodation

The beach half can range from a few hundred dollars per night to several thousand. Zuri Zanzibar’s published 2026 rack rates show its entry bungalow at US$790 per room per night in mid season, US$1,160 in high season and US$1,340 over the festive period, on half board. That is a useful example of why five premium beach nights can add US$4,000–7,000 before upgrades.

5. Activities and honeymoon upgrades

Private safari vehicleOften one of the best upgrades because it changes the pace of every game drive.
Balloon safariA major one-off extra rather than something to assume is included in the package.
Private dinner / bush breakfastUsually a better honeymoon spend than adding another one-night park stop.
Villa / private-pool roomWorth prioritising on the beach more than on safari if the budget is limited.

What does your budget actually buy?

Total budget for twoWhat a realistic Tanzania honeymoon can look like
About US$7,000Seven safari-led nights, good camps rather than flagship luxury, limited internal flying and a compact route.
About US$10,000Five or six safari nights plus four or five beach nights, or a stronger safari-only trip with better camps.
About US$15,000A comfortable 11–13 night safari + Zanzibar honeymoon with better-positioned camps and a strong beach resort.
About US$25,000Premium safari camps, more private guiding, fly-in routing and a high-end Zanzibar suite or villa.
US$40,000+Top safari lodges, private vehicles, private-pool suites/villas, premium transfers and very little compromise on room category or routing.

Safari-only vs safari + Zanzibar

A safari-only honeymoon is not automatically cheaper per night because safari days carry expensive conservation, guiding and logistics costs. Adding Zanzibar can actually reduce the average nightly cost if you replace several top-end safari nights with beach nights. The trade-off is the extra domestic flight and airport transfer.

For couples with around US$10,000–15,000, five or six safari nights followed by four or five nights on Zanzibar often gives a better overall honeymoon than spending every night in premium safari camps.

Where couples overspend

  • Too many safari stops: each new park can add transfers, air sectors and one-night inefficiency.
  • Buying the brand instead of the location: the expensive Serengeti lodge is not worth it if it is poorly positioned for your month.
  • Private pools on every safari stop: spend that premium where you will actually use the room.
  • Festive beach dates: published Zanzibar resort rates can jump sharply over Christmas and New Year.
  • Comparing quotes before checking inclusions: one operator may include park fees and internal flights while another leaves them out.

How to save without making the honeymoon worse

  • Use two strong safari bases instead of four short ones.
  • Travel just outside the highest-demand migration weeks if wildlife positioning still works for your dates.
  • Use a private vehicle selectively rather than automatically for every safari day.
  • Choose one major romantic extra instead of stacking balloon safari, private dinner, spa and multiple paid experiences.
  • Spend more on the right Serengeti location and less on cosmetic room upgrades.
  • Compare Zanzibar coasts before paying for a five-star property that does not match how you actually want to use the beach.

Tanzania honeymoon cost questions

How much does a Tanzania honeymoon cost for two people?

A realistic planning range is around US$8,500–14,500 per couple for a comfortable ten-night safari + beach honeymoon before intercontinental flights. Seven-night safari-led trips can start lower, while premium 14-night trips often reach US$12,000–22,000 or more.

Why are Tanzania safaris so expensive?

The room rate is only part of the cost. Park and concession fees, guiding, safari vehicles, internal flights, transfers and often all meals are bundled into or added on top of the accommodation price.

Is Zanzibar cheaper than the safari part?

Usually on a per-night basis, yes, especially at mid-range properties. At premium resorts the gap narrows quickly: Zuri Zanzibar’s published 2026 bungalow rates range from US$790 to US$1,340 per room per night depending on season.

Are park fees included in Tanzania honeymoon packages?

Often, but never assume it. Ask the operator to confirm park, conservation and concession fees, domestic flights, transfers and whether the safari vehicle is private or shared.

Can we do Tanzania and Zanzibar for under US$10,000?

Yes, particularly with a compact itinerary, good mid-range camps, careful season choice and four or five beach nights. The route needs to stay simple so transport and one-night-stop costs do not consume the budget.
