Is Rodrigues Island good for a honeymoon?

Yes — but for a specific kind of couple. Rodrigues is not a smaller copy of Mauritius. The attraction is the lack of scale: fewer resorts, fewer organised attractions and much less nightlife. Days revolve around beaches, lagoon trips, hiking, local food, scooters, fishing villages and doing very little.

Rodrigues is officially part of Mauritius. The island covers about 108 km², measures roughly 18 km by 8 km and lies around 650 km north-east of Mauritius. That geographic separation is exactly why it feels so different from the main island.

How do you get to Rodrigues?

The normal route is to fly internationally into Mauritius and connect onward to Plaine Corail Airport (RRG). Air Mauritius currently operates direct Mauritius–Rodrigues flights every day, with a published flight time of around 1 hour 35 minutes. The island uses the Mauritian rupee and the same UTC+4 time zone as Mauritius.

For a honeymoon, avoid booking a tight same-day international connection home from Rodrigues. Weather disruptions do happen, especially during cyclone season, so leaving a buffer night on Mauritius at the end of the trip is sensible.

Best time for a Rodrigues honeymoon

Rodrigues has a tropical climate. Government information gives typical southern-summer temperatures of roughly 28–35°C and winter temperatures of about 18–27°C. The official cyclone season runs from November through April. For couples who want the easiest weather planning, the drier cooler part of the year is generally simpler; July and August can feel breezier, which is excellent for wind and kite sports.

Rodrigues or mainland Mauritius?

For most couples, the best answer is both. Mainland Mauritius has the deeper resort selection, golf, spas, restaurants and easier luxury. Rodrigues provides the contrast: smaller hotels, empty coastlines and a sense that you have gone somewhere much less obvious.
