Inside Le Petit Manoir: A Honeymoon with a Personal Touch
Which suite would the owner choose for his own honeymoon? Frank Heyneke shares the rooms, seasons and small gestures that make this Cape Winelands address memorable — plus a candid five-night budget.
In the centre of Franschhoek, Le Petit Manoir offers an appealing balance: private time together behind the suite door, and galleries, restaurants and wine estates right outside it.
For this exclusive written interview for honeymoons.africa, Frank Heyneke, the hotel’s Owner and General Manager, answered ten questions about what matters most for couples — from his favourite private hot tub to the part of hosting newlyweds he remembers most.
01 · At the hotel
A village stay with room to disappear
What makes Le Petit Manoir special for honeymooners?
Frank Heyneke: “Le Petit Manoir is a boutique hotel in the heart of Franschhoek village. Couples can choose a suite with its own private pool or Kol Kol hot tub, and they are a short walk from galleries, chocolatiers and some of South Africa’s best restaurants.”
He points to the vineyards and mountains surrounding the village, with wine-tasting days on the Wine Tram or by private tuk tuk so neither partner needs to drive. On arrival, honeymoon couples receive a complimentary minibar, a congratulatory plate of treats prepared by the pastry chef and a bottle of sparkling wine.
Which room would you choose for your own honeymoon?
“I would book the King Suite with Kol Kol Hot Tub. There is nothing more romantic than ending a day in the winelands under the stars in your own wood-fired hot tub.”
Frank recommends the Executive Suite for couples who want more space and a deliberately slow, indulgent stay. The hotel’s official site also lists three Luxury Pool Suites with their own heated splash pools. See the hotel’s room categories.

02 · Planning your stay
When to go — and how long to linger
What atmosphere should couples expect?
Frank: “A mixture, weighted towards calm.” He describes a gentle daytime buzz around the Conservatory restaurant and the village, but says the hotel’s small scale keeps the suites quiet and personal. Couples can step into Franschhoek’s restaurant scene whenever they wish, then retreat to their own space.
Which months would you choose for a honeymoon?
Frank: “I would choose March to April.” In his view, the harvest, golden vineyards, warm weather and reduced crowds make these months especially attractive.
His close second choice is September to November, when spring flowers appear and temperatures are milder. December to February is vibrant, but often hot, busy and expensive. June to August can be rainy and cool — yet offers quieter estates, better value and particularly memorable evenings in the hot tub.
How many nights should honeymooners stay?
Frank: “Three to four nights lets couples enjoy their suite, a wine day, the village and an outdoor day without rushing. Five nights is ideal for slow mornings and no schedule at all.”
Our planning suggestion: combine three or four nights here with Cape Town, or pair a Winelands stay with a South Africa safari honeymoon.
03 · The experience
Privacy is a choice, not an assumption
Can you share a moment that captures the spirit of the hotel?
Frank: He loves seeing newlyweds enter their room for the first time to find chilled sparkling wine, a plate of pastry-chef treats and a complimentary minibar. Some have arrived exhausted after a wedding week and a long flight, then simply stop, laugh and raise a glass at the doorway. For him, those quiet first moments as newlyweds are the point of the experience.
How private are the pools, terraces and suites in practice?
Frank: The hotel has three Pool Suites, each with its own private pool, as well as a shared pool beside the Conservatory. Because the Conservatory welcomes outside visitors during the day, the shared pool feels more social. For uninterrupted time together, he recommends a Pool Suite or the King Suite with Kol Kol Hot Tub.
He adds that the team asks couples at the beginning of their stay how much interaction they want — and respects the answer.

04 · Transparent costs
What would five nights actually cost?
Can you break down a realistic five-night honeymoon?
Frank: He provided the following illustrative April itinerary for two people, using the King Suite with Kol Kol Hot Tub. This was shared in the interview dated 29 October 2026.
| Five-night example for two | Estimated ZAR |
|---|---|
| King Suite with Kol Kol Hot Tub — 5 × R12,000 | R60,000 |
| Return airport transfers with the hotel’s driver | R5,000 |
| Franschhoek Wine Tram day for two, including tastings | R2,000 |
| Private tuk tuk wine tour for two, excluding estate tastings | R900 |
| Four dinners in Franschhoek restaurants | R12,000 |
| Lunches, wine and other extras | R5,000 |
| Rounded total for two | ≈ R85,000 |
The individual figures total R84,900; the rounded total is R85,000. These are Frank’s example figures, not a live package offer. His stated room-rate range was R9,000–R16,000 per night, depending on room and season. Other advertised tour prices and inclusions may differ; confirm costs, minimum stays and availability with the hotel before booking. International flights are not included.
05 · The person behind the place
Meet the host: Frank Heyneke
What first drew you to hospitality?
Frank: Hospitality has been his lifelong passion, which led him to study it at degree level. Opening Le Petit Manoir in 2017 was, he says, a dream come true. The meaningful part is helping a couple begin their next chapter and creating little details they remember years later.
How do you balance thoughtful service with privacy?
“Good hosting is about reading people. Some couples want recommendations and a chat; others want us to be almost invisible.”
Frank says the best approach is to ask early and follow the couple’s lead. A celebration waiting in the room, a dinner reservation already arranged or breakfast at precisely the preferred time can communicate care without interrupting a couple’s time together.

Plan a Le Petit Manoir honeymoon
Location: 54 Huguenot Road, Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa. The hotel puts restaurants, galleries and village shops within easy walking distance. When comparing rates, make sure you’re looking at the exact room category — a shared hotel pool is different from a suite’s private plunge pool.
