Diving and snorkelling are ideal honeymoon experiences because they can be as relaxed or adventurous as you want. You can spend an hour snorkelling from the beach, book a two-dive morning or make marine life the reason for choosing an island.
Where is it best?
Top choices include Mnemba Atoll off Zanzibar, the Bazaruto and Quirimbas archipelagos in Mozambique, and the granitic and outer islands of Seychelles. Mauritius and Madagascar also offer excellent options.

Best time
Conditions vary by island, but June to October and December to February are broadly reliable in many Indian Ocean destinations. Wind, plankton and seasonal rain can affect visibility.
Snorkelling or diving?
If only one of you dives, choose a destination where strong snorkelling is available from the same boat or house reef. That way the experience stays shared rather than splitting the day.

- Whether equipment is included.
