Is Egypt good for a honeymoon?
Few places pack as much into a single trip. You can stand beneath the Great Pyramid in the morning, watch the sun set over the Nile from a sailing boat, explore tombs in the Valley of the Kings and end the honeymoon snorkelling over coral reefs a short flight or drive away. Egypt’s heritage hotels — old palaces and grand Nile-side properties — add a sense of occasion that suits a honeymoon perfectly.
It is not a do-nothing trip in the way the Seychelles or Mauritius can be. Sightseeing starts early to beat the heat and the crowds, and Cairo is intense. The key is pacing: fewer sites, better guides, and plenty of time on the river and the beach.
Nile cruise or dahabiya?

Best for comfort and value. Luxury cruise boats sail between Luxor and Aswan over three to four nights, with a pool deck, spa and guided visits to temples such as Edfu and Kom Ombo. The best boats are small and elegant; cheaper ships can be large and crowded, so choose carefully.
Dahabiya
Best for romance. These traditional two-masted sailing boats carry a small number of guests, moor at quiet islands and riverbanks, and take four to five nights between Esna and Aswan. The pace is slower and far more intimate — the most honeymoon-worthy way to see the Nile.
For the ultimate splurge, charter an entire dahabiya for the two of you. For an easy sunset on the water, take a traditional sailing boat — in Egypt, a felucca — in Aswan.

Best time for an Egypt honeymoon
The best time for a honeymoon in Egypt is October to April. Days in Luxor and Aswan are warm and sunny, and evenings are pleasant for dinner on deck. December to February is peak season, with the busiest sites and highest prices, and nights in Cairo and the desert can be cool. March and April are lovely but warmer, with occasional dusty winds.
June to August is extremely hot in Upper Egypt, often above 40°C, which makes sightseeing tiring. The Red Sea is swimmable year-round; the water is warmest from roughly July to October, while winter can be breezy on the northern coast. Ramadan dates move each year; travel is still possible, but some opening hours change.

A 10-night Egypt honeymoon itinerary
Stay with a pyramid view, visit the Giza plateau early and spend an afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Keep evenings relaxed.
Fly to Luxor. Explore Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, or take a dawn balloon flight before boarding.
Cruise or sail by dahabiya to Aswan, stopping at temples and quiet riverbanks. This is the romantic heart of the trip.
Fly (usually via Cairo) or drive from Luxor to the Red Sea coast and finish with reefs, spa time and sunsets. Add Abu Simbel from Aswan if you have an extra day.
With 12–14 nights, add a night in Aswan, a second Luxor night on the West Bank, or two more beach nights. With only seven nights, choose either the Nile or the Red Sea alongside Cairo rather than rushing all three.
How much does an Egypt honeymoon cost?
Egypt offers excellent value compared with safari destinations or the Indian Ocean islands. As a rough guide, allow from around US$6,000 per couple for a comfortable 10-night honeymoon including international flights from Europe, and US$12,000 or more for a luxury version with a boutique dahabiya, heritage hotels and private guiding. The biggest variables are the Nile boat, the Cairo hotel, flights and whether you use private guides. Entry tickets to major sites, especially special tombs, add up, so ask whether they are included.
